How Does LED Teeth Whitening Work?

If you’ve been using photo editing apps to whiten your teeth in pictures, this one’s for you. A painless, non-invasive procedure called LED Teeth Whitening will effectively brighten your smile in as little as 20 minutes! And, don’t worry, this pain-free experience is nothing like going to the dentist.

The LED Teeth Whitening Process

During your appointment, a whitening gel is placed on your teeth. This whitening gel is made of hydrogen peroxide, or a close derivative called carbamide peroxide. The active ingredients in the whitening gel act as warriors, breaking apart into smaller teams to infiltrate your tooth enamel and attack any discoloration. This deep cleaning action is enhanced with the help of an LED light.

LED stands for light-emitting diode. On its own, an LED light will not have any effect on the color of your teeth. However, it can be used in conjunction with a teeth whitening agent. An LED light, therefore, acts as a catalyst to speed up the effectiveness of the whitening gel.

In just 20 minutes, the LED will speed up the chemical reactions of the whitening agent, eliminating stains and giving you a brighter and whiter smile. How much whiter, you ask? One session with Ashley Bee Esthetics will improve your smile by 6-8 shades!

Is LED Teeth Whitening Safe?

Yes, LED teeth whitening is very safe! In fact, a 2015 study shows that cold-light, such as from an LED light, does not have any effect on tooth structure. This means you can leave your appointment without any worries about potential damage to your teeth.

In terms of the whitening gel, you want to be aware of your sensitivity levels. With any teeth whitening agent, there can be some level of sensitivity to the product. Sensitivity levels vary from person to person, however.

How Can I Maximize My Results?

Ashley Bee Esthetics highly recommends that you maintain good oral hygiene as directed by your dentist. We also suggest you avoid or reduce consumption of teeth-staining foods (such as coffee and wine), and use straws whenever possible.
